Aayush Bhandary

Aayush is a second-year undergraduate student at the University of Michigan majoring in Biomolecular Science on the pre-med track. His interest in sleep stems largely from personal experiences with how sleep can affect cognitive performance, daily functioning, and athletic performance. These experiences sparked a curiosity about why sleep is such a fundamental component of health, yet is often overlooked in everyday life. Over time, he became increasingly interested in the biological mechanisms underlying sleep and its role in cognition, mental health, and overall well-being. Through his work at the Center for Sleep and Cognition, he hopes to better understand how sleep disturbances affect brain function and how non-invasive interventions may be used to improve sleep and cognitive outcomes, particularly in individuals with psychiatric and neurological disorders.

Outside of the lab, Aayush is involved in undergraduate research studying developmental biology and genetics using zebrafish models. He hopes to pursue a career that combines clinical medicine with scientific research. In his free time, he enjoys playing basketball, attending concerts, trying new restaurants, and following Boston sports teams.
